Mobile Monday Launched in Addis Ababa

Mobile Monday Addis launched this afternoon at the Innovation Africa Digital Summit in Sheraton hotel, Addis Ababa. Mr. Jari Tammisto, CEO and President of Mobile Monday sign the agreement with Mr. Levi Girma, the vise President of ICT ET.

“What Can You Make with Bamboo?” A design competition at EiABC.

The Italian Cultural Institute in cooperation with EiABC and AAU School of Fine Arts and Design  announces its first  designcompetitionin titled “What Can You Make with Bamboo?” The  design competition is  open to all students, artists, artisans, and designers working in  Ethiopia. The object of the competition is to create a piece of furniture or accessory made mainly of bamboo.The competition was launched at EiABC with a lecture given by Italian architect and designer Luca Colombo on Monday, March 13th at 17:30 PM. Promoting Ethiopia through Online Tools

An exciting event around the use of new media for cultural promotion was organized by Heinrich Boell Foundation (HBF), The Reporter, ethiopian-blog.com and our own iceaddis on 6th and 7th of March at iceaddis hub and Bole Rock respectively .On these events there was presentations and panel-discussions by international and national experts and practitioners of different modern media formats.

On the events Geraldine De Bastion , an international media expert from new thinking communications, Berlin ,Germany, made a presentations about “Social Media Marketing and Business – State of the Art”. She stated that the new technology  Social media like Facebook ,Twitter and linkedIn changed how public relations professionals conduct their jobs. Connecting Stakeholders: Sharing remarkable experiences on the usage of ICT in the economic sector

With the increasing number of ICT and internet users in the world, engaging several technologies within the agricultural sector especially in developing countries like Ethiopia leads to the promotion of sustainable development across the country.

For second time in 2012 the event was organized on behalf of the International Institute for Communication and Development (IICD) at iceaddis on February 23, 2012.

This knowledge sharing event was a unique forum for ‘Connect for Change’ partners and other interested stakeholders who contributed and shared their experiences in the deployment of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

Awareness was raised on the Ethiopian Livestock Market Information System which is implemented since 2005 in the country and provides real time price information through SMS, email and internet to rural communities, pastoralists/livestock producers and traders in Ethiopia, in both English and Amharic language on livestock. Social Innovation for Women is a Marrow Foundation funded initiative hosted at the ICE Hub in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on the EiABC campus of Addis Ababa University. This is a project of the Center for Creative Leadership www.ccl.org and an extension of Leadership Beyond Boundaries www.leadbeyond.org We are thrilled to see these amazing women from the EiABC campus of Addis Ababa University stepping out into this new leadership adventure!

The mission of Social Innovation for is to provide humanitarian investments to emerging social entrepreneurs whose ideas hold promise to improve the lives of women, girls and families in Ethiopia .

The remarkable knowledge sharing series continued in 2012

This one day knowledge sharing was organized based on the consultation and input from the various C4C partners. It was coordinated on behalf of the International Institute for Communication and Development (IICD) and Connect4Change (C4C).  This event was held at ICE Addis (I-innovation, C-collaboration, E-entrepreneurship) on the EiABC compound on January 27, 2012.  The main focus was on sharing experiences of deployed ICT applications and school management systems in Ethiopia. The participants came from various public and private entities, including ICT focal persons from schools and NGOs.

Experiences were shared on the key issues of proper managing and utilizing resources at organization level and ICT school laboratories which assist to achieve the general educational goal. The private company “Escape Computing” introduced one of their prototype software applications called “eclass”. This software package impressed most of the participants. The representative from areas like Assyita, Jimma, Adulala  D/Tabor, Bahir Dar and Addis Ababa wanted to be connected to other education and ICT related projects and programmes . Read more »

First-ever g|Ethiopia to be held in Addis

The Google team is  gearing up for the  first g|Ethiopia, happening February 7 to  8 in Addis Ababa . The team with great line-up of Google speakers from across the world aims to  engage  with community of developers, business leaders, and entrepreneurs who are as passionate about technology as they  are.

The first day of the team will  focus on hands-on training from engineers specializing in popular tools such as App Engine, Android, Chrome, Maps, Google+ and Webmaster Tools.  The second day will be a  presentation  suitable for marketers, webmasters, and entrepreneurs.  On the day  all Technical and non-technical presentations will focus on Google products, platforms, tips and trends.

eLearning Quality Assurance Certification for Ethiopian Institute

EiABC became the first East African  institute to be certified with an international quality label eLearning Quality Assurance certification.

Omar Dawud, a certified peer reviewer and iceAddis staff, received the certification at Online Educa Berlin on behalf of EiABC.  Dr. Ulf-DanielEhlers, vice president of European foundation for quality in eLearning calls the process “a success” while giving the certification for the eleven institutes which include United Nations University,  Global Campus and eAcademy-GIZ.

“The certification has been given to the  introductory course to be given for EiABC teachers. It gives them the practical and theoretical background they need to be able to start adapting their own course to a blended, ICT supported learning scenario.” Said Omar.
